We have received awards for research and acoustical design from the American Institute of Architects, the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, the National Council of Acoustical Consultants and Progressive Architecture. We specialize in the design of spaces for natural acoustic and amplified performances in many venues.
We have pioneered the use of advanced acoustical measuring systems to evaluate acoustical challenges in rooms as well as computer modeling methods to assess prospective design solutions.

Acoustical design tasks in airport terminals involve the use of acoustical finishes in terminal and waiting areas to reduce noise from the multitudes of people using the spaces; sound isolation from planes outside, baggage handling equipment below and air handling units within the building and integrated design of PA systems so announcements can be heard clearly at moderate levels.
Providing acoustical privacy between private offices and reducing sounds propagating between work stations in open offices are among the primary design tasks in office buildings.
Specialized facilities are also designed for conference, tele or video conference and distance learning.
Laboratories, classrooms, meeting rooms, lecture halls, offices and research facilities of various types with demanding acoustical performance criteria are among the venues found in our portfolio of these buildings at the University of Florida, Stetson University, USF, UWF, and many community colleges among others. Constraints posed by historic contexts, innovative equipment used in research and the tight budgets usually encountered in these buildings are creatively integrated in our design solutions.
Providing a high quality acoustic environment in schools is a basic requirement. There is a new ANSI standard 12.60 that contain acoustical design criteria for reverberation times, STC ratings and equipment noise levels for schools to maximize student learning capabilities. Our portfolio includes a large number of public and private schools where we have implemented acoustics as an integral part of the designs in ways that meet the extremely limited budgets usually associated with these projects.

Firearms + Weapons Training Facilities
The high energy impulsive noises associated with firearms discharge and law enforcement and military training requires special equipment to measure and special techniques to diagnose and design with.
Our firm has developed these over a 35 year period to become the specialists in this area. Work for federal law enforcement agencies including the FBI, Capitol Police and Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers as well as various branches of the military and the National Rifle Association has solidified our position in the field.
HOSPITALS + HEALTHCARE
The need for careful acoustical design in hospitals and health care occupancies has been increased with the recent adoption of patient privacy requirements contained in HIPPA.
Design to reduce the spread of conversations between doctors and patients, nurses and doctors regarding patients, billing staff and patients, etc. require acoustical design interventions in many areas of hospitals today.
Likewise the technological advances in diagnostic and surgical equipment bring stringent noise and vibration criteria to these areas of the project. Noise and vibration from large central plants, pumps and air handling units must also be controlled within the hospital and off site.
From designing ballrooms, meeting spaces, and lobbies to guest rooms, spas and restaurants, the hospitality market involves many facets of acoustical analysis that are needed to achieve fully functional spaces.
Designing so that guests will not complain about hearing other guests in the next room, or so that conference attendees are not able to hear the speaker in the ballroom, there are a multitude of acoustical issues that should be addressed when building or renovating this building type.
High levels of noise produced by specialized equipment and processes are measured, modeled and controlled to reduce noise within plants for compliance with OSHA and other regulatory agencies requirements for employees and reduced as they move out of the building to neighboring properties for noise ordinance compliance.

Our firm was founded in 1981 to develop a scientific basis for architectural and acoustical design for performing arts centers. This was has been nurtured over the years through Professor Siebein’s long term research agenda in this area carried out through his work at the University of Florida School of Architecture and design work on over 120 performance facilities worldwide. This remains our first love. Our design experience includes a unique mixture of world class venues with many acoustically sophisticated, with cost effective solutions for regional and local facilities including the Ocala Symphony, American School Theater in Tegucigalpa, The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center, Gretchen Nelson Scott Performing Arts, Dr. Gene Prough Center for the Arts, Don Thompson Theatre in Tampa, the Saint Petersburg Music Center in St. Petersburg, and the Center for Performing Arts and Education in Punta Gorda, Florida.
Production facilities are a specialty acoustic space that require very unique features to allow for successful recording and playback of recorded productions. Finding the delicate balance between absorption and diffusion, eliminating acoustic defects such as echoes, excess reverberation or bass build-up, and creating a vibrant environment in which sounds can be recorded and played back is at the center of our acoustic design of production facilities. We have worked with many broadcast studios for private artists, news companies, universities and specialty educational facilities.
Religious facilities are one of our favorite building types. We have found that each place of worship is unique, with different users and a variety of uses. We like to sit down with the leaders to discover how they use their space, what their current concerns are and what they hope to achieve with their project. Some worship centers use only natural acoustics, with no sound system. Others have a full rock band and pumping music that excites and invigorates the congregation. And some are in between, they may do some parts of the worship unamplified and play some hymns through the sound system. Whatever the case is, we will help you achieve the acoustic environment that is custom suited to your unique congregation.
Luxury high rise and mid-rise condominium and mixed-use projects have been a specialty of our firm for many years. We have been engaged by many developers, architects and contractors to work on the most prestigious projects in their portfolio.
